Jessica Wood was born in Boise, Idaho but has lived in Sonoma County for the last 24 years. She was an at risk youth, in a gang as a teen, and became a teen mom at the age of 17. She was a victim of domestic violence and sexual abuse as a young girl and works to spread awareness to programs that help get women out of those situations. She has been a huge child care advocate for many years, has been very involved in politics and local campaigns and worked for two Supervisors in Sonoma County. She loves to teach and empower youth and children that they have a voice and that they matter. Education has been very important to Jessica. She received her two AA degrees from Santa Rosa Junior College in Administration of Justice and Behavioral Sciences. She also holds a certificate for Children in the Justice System as well. She received her Bachelors in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies from Sonoma State and her Masters in Public Administration from Sonoma State. She hold a cleared Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and has taught in Sonoma County for the last six years. She served on the Commission on the Status of Women as Vice-Chair and was a Commissioner for 8 years.
The most important role she was ever given was to be a Mother to two sons, Israel who is 25, and Alejandro who is 17 years old, and ready to graduate from High School. They have been the most precious gift of her lifetime. They taught her every day about compassion, joy, love, forgiveness, and gave the motivation to do better every day. She had a daughter named Angel Marie, who was born in 2006, and passed away at two days old. Jessica named the Non-Profit Angel Foundation to honor her daughter and to carry on her memory- and leave a lasting legacy to help youth from going down the dark and painful path that Jessica went down. She loves God and owes her life to Jesus for saving her 18 years ago. Jessica is the Founder, and President, and is excited to see all the growth in the Youth and Angel Foundation's Team.
In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog~Winter, hiking, hot pilates, music, and experiencing all that life has to offer. She is a coffee lover and likes to go on new adventures.
Kayla Sierras was born and raised in California’s Central Valley, and moved to Santa Rosa eight years ago to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Education, and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. What began as a move for school quickly became a deep connection to Sonoma County and the families who shape this community.
Over the years, she has taught and supported students across local elementary schools, long‑term substitute roles, and youth programs. These experiences strengthened her belief in compassion, dignity, and community care—values that guide both her work with children and her service to families.
Four years ago, while she was Substitute Teaching, she met Jessica Wood, whose heart for local families and unwavering commitment to community support immediately resonated with her. Their shared passion for uplifting those facing hardship led her to join the Angel Foundation Team!
In this role, she is honored to help steward resources that provide hope, stability, and meaningful assistance to families navigating difficult moments. Sonoma County has become her home, and she is deeply committed to advancing the Angel Foundation of Sonoma County's mission of strengthening and supporting the community and Youth she loves.
Carmela Velasquez was born and raised in Goleta, California. She earned her bachelor's degree in Cinema and Television Arts with a Certificate in Photo communications from California State University, Fullerton. From a young age, she has been passionate about caring for others and helping them to learn.
From volunteering at her local Boys & Girls Club in high school to working in education today. She has always found joy in helping children feel seen, supported and encouraged. She met Jessica Wood while substitute Teaching for her Third Grade class at Roseland Creek Elementary. She was asked to come on board to help Youth in Sonoma County, and now serves as the Executive Board Secretary for Angel Foundation of Sonoma County. Carmela is committed to giving back to the community by building relationships with youth and supporting the organizations Mission and Vision. She substitute Teaches and is a caregiver for her father.
In Carmela's free time, she enjoys crafting with her nieces and nephews. Whether through education, service or creativity, she hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of everyone she meets.
